June 2015: On 20th June a group from St Mary Magdalene joined the pilgrimage through St Albans to hear the story of England's first martyr, and hear the Archbishop of Canterbury preach at the pilgrimage Eucharist.
We all enjoyed our trip to St Albans. The parade through the town centre was watched by hundreds of Saturday shoppers. The service was very inspirational and the Archbishop of Canterbury reminded us in his address that Christians today still face persecution as did Alban. On arrival banners were handed out, which called for a strong wrist to carry it and read the prayers as we went along.
On Sunday 28 June, the congregation at St John the Baptist Church, Cockayne Hatley and the congregation at their sister churches, St Mary's Potton and All Saints, Sutton, had the great pleasure of welcoming the Right Reverend Richard Atkinson, Bishop of Bedford to their Patronal Festival Confirmation Reception & Blessing of Completed works. Those being confirmed and Received in the Communion of the Church of England were from all three churches.
Those who were Confirmed are:
From St John the Baptist: Amy Jane Brian-
From All Saints, Sutton: David James Douglas Montgomery, Jason Alan Zachary Hammett, Taylor Rosa Anastasia Gilling, Emmanuel Frederick Dominic Chapman.
From St Mary's, Potton: Isobel Alice Maria Horsfall, Tony William Boxall, Paula Jane Zena Evetts, Jemma Anne Florence Goodyer. With John Thomas Feliks Rozanski being Received into the Communion of the Church of England.
The Bishop also blessed the new Kitchen area and toilets which were recently installed in the rear of the church. It was most gratifying to hear the Bishop state that in his view such facilities were an integral part of the modern (historical)church building.
