Diocese of St Albans
A partly rural deanery, with a tradition of joint worship and an active synod.
The Deanery has a great tradition for worshipping together. Each Lent there are 5 evening services with (usually) visiting preachers on a common theme. In the recent past we have been following the St Albans initiative of Going Deeper into God, Transforming Communities and Making more Disciples. For 2014 we explore vocation in all its forms, whether to ordained or reader ministry or other work to further the mission to promulgate the word of God. Amongst the speakers are the Diocesan Director of Ordinands, the Reader Ministry Officer and the Diocesan Secretary with the series concluded by the Bishop of St Albans.
Each June the Deanery joins together for an evening celebration at which the singing is normally supported by the joint choirs of all the parishes. At this service the parishes will present their donations to the current Deanery Project.
To further the Deanery commitment to worship, recently the Deanery instigated a Deanery Eucharist. In the past this has been included in one of the Synod meetings, but for 2014 we have decided to move it to a Sunday evening, on 21st September.
